Satavari, Asparagus racemosus Willd

It is a drug which has to be always used fresh. The actions are - aphrodisiac, rejuvenative, increases breast milk, tonifying , improves intellect, increases digestive power, nourishing and good for the eye. It works on blood and reproductive tissue. It is effective in cases like emaciation, oedema, tumor like manifestations in the abdomen and diarrhoea. It is used as an uterine sedative, in conditions like schistosomiasis, gastric ulcers, inflammatory conditions, impotency, leaver complaints and as a galactagogue in various other ailments. Various properties of A.racemosus have also been scientifically studied. They include anti-spasmodic, cardiotonic, cytotoxic, antifungal, uterine relaxation, hypolipemic estrogenic, antiinflamatory, immunostimulant, anitleucopenic, analgesic and anti-ulcer activities.
